TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan said the planned meeting with candidate number 02 Prabowo Subianto was not initiated for negotiation post the 2019 presidential election. According to Luhut, he and Prabowo as a fellow former special forces officer of the Indonesian Armed Force (TNI) are good friends.
Luhut even considered the former commander of the Army's Special Forces (Kopassus) a nationalist. “I want Pak Prabowo to be remembered in Indonesian history as a great democrat, a father of democracy, and a great patriot,” said Luhut in Blue Bird headquarter, Jakarta, on Monday, April 22.

Therefore, he hoped there would be no party disturbing public order and heating up the political situation after the general elections. As massively reported in media, based on results of quick counts, Prabowo was defeated by incumbent Jokowi.
“Don’t heat up the situation, let’s wait for the vote tally from Election Commission (KPU) in peace,” Luhut underlined.
As ordered by Jokowi, Luhut was supposed to meet Prabowo on Sunday, April 21 after the end of the 2019 presidential election. The meeting was halted since the latter was caught in flu, Luhut said.
However, Luhut Pandjaitan explained he had called the Gerindra chairman and would reschedule the meeting soon.
